Ronald W. Matthews Chemistry teacher at Trinity High School

Ronald W. Matthews, 63, of Scenery Hill, died unexpectedly at 6:46 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2003, in Washington Hospital.

He was born August 5, 1939, in Washington, a son of the late Wilbert F. (Web) and Gladys Eutsey Matthews.

Mr. Matthews was a 1957 graduate of Ellsworth High School and received a bachelor of science degree from California State Teachers College in 1963. In 1969, he received a master's degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.

He was a chemistry teacher for 41 years, mostly at Trinity High School.

Mr. Matthews was a member of Scenery Hill United Methodist Church, Fellowship Dartball League and Scenery Hill Cemetery Board of Directors.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Martin Matthews; a daughter, Sherry DeBerardinis of Scenery Hill; a son, Ronald S. Matthews of Scott Township; six grandchildren, Kevin and Kelly McIlvaine, Louis, Annina and Olivia DeBerardinis and Alyssa Matthews; two brothers, Wayne F. Matthews of Columbus, Ohio, and Ray W. Matthews of Scenery Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
